Perhaps someone gave it to you, or you inherited it from someone who got tired of it. The point is, you need serger classes because you have no idea how to get that little maze of threads up and running.
Many of you have told us that you have a love-hate relationship with your serger. You know how many possibilities it offers, the professional finish it gives clothing, and how convenient it is once you learn to use it. But you still haven’t quite mastered it. We’ve talked about serger classes before, but today seems like a great day to remind you that they exist and that they’re wonderful. We’ll also refresh your memory about what they cover:
- Turning it on, turning it off, and getting started.
- Threading it and preparing the threads.
- Adjusting the tension correctly.
- How to change threads without having to thread it again.
- Stitch length, seam width, and the function of the differential feed.
- Changing the needles and presser foot.
- How to sew with three threads (instead of four).
- Basic maintenance: cleaning and oiling.
- Making your first stitches and cutting the thread.
- How to avoid problems when sewing knit (stretch) fabric.
- Handling tips.
- Cheat sheets to help you remember everything.
The goal of these classes is for you to get to know your serger, lose your fear of it, and learn how to prepare and start it. We help you take that difficult first step and set you on the path so you can keep practicing and improving on your own.
The price of the in-person classes is €25, they last two hours, and we provide the fabric. You’ll need to bring your serger and thread. We usually schedule one every month, but if you’ve been making excuses for a long time, we encourage you to do it this Friday. Two hours of companionship and learning; a lifetime of perfect finishes and satisfying sewing.
