5 CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS MADE WITH BURLAP FABRIC.
1. Light and love to hang.
The technique we showed you in the video tutorial for making puffy hearts is a perfect fit for our Christmas ornaments made with burlap fabric. We spotted the idea on the Trinkets in Bloom blog, where you can see the entire process in English, and we really think it’s perfect for the tree. In this case, they didn’t use a sewing machine, but rather fabric glue to join the two pieces.
Fabric or acrylic paint, glue, glitter, and such a lovely result that we suspect they’ll still be hanging around the house after Christmas. You can make any shape you like: angels, reindeer, stockings…
2. Rustic pinecone garland.
It’s so easy to make that it seems incredible for it to turn out so pretty. As you can see, you’ll only need string, burlap fabric, and a few small closed screw eyes. The word may not sound familiar, but you know exactly what they are: those pointed little hooks that you screw into the back of picture frames to hang them from a wall hook. As for tools, you only need scissors and pliers to place the screw eyes at the top of the pinecones.
Take several pieces of string of the same length to give the garland some strength—you can also use a strip of burlap if you prefer—and alternate pinecones and bows. The bows will keep the pieces of string together and prevent the pinecones from sliding into one another. Use the beautiful finished garland to wrap around the tree or decorate its base.
3. Light-up burlap garland.
You may resist the pinecones, but surely you can’t resist the little lights! This light-up garland is even easier than the previous one, since you can skip the work of attaching hooks to each pinecone. You only need the typical string of Christmas lights you can find in any store, but you’ve certainly never seen it look this pretty. The result is even better when you alternate fabrics in different colors: you can also use burlap or some of our beautiful Christmas fabrics, ribbon, or bows.
It couldn’t be easier: start by cutting pieces of fabric to an appropriate size. If you’re making a lot of them, you’ll save a great deal of time with a rotary cutter, although you can of course use scissors too. Then you simply tie them onto the cord. 4. Colorful balls wrapped in burlap fabric.
The perfect example of Christmas ornaments made with burlap fabric that are easy and beautiful, capable of turning an ordinary tree into something much more special. As you can see, all you have to do is take some of the balls you’re going to hang on the tree—preferably ones in bright colors, so they stand out beneath the fabric—and wrap them in a small piece of burlap, closing the “little bag” with ribbon.
As in other cases, we think the prettiest result comes from alternating them. In other words, wrap some and leave others uncovered so they highlight one another.
5. Little gifts wrapped in burlap fabric.
An idea with three different uses. On the one hand, you can use miniature gifts to decorate the tree branches; on the other, you can use larger gifts to decorate the base of the tree, using empty boxes purely as decoration. Finally, you can also use the idea to wrap real gifts. You only need burlap fabric, a little string or ribbon, and something eye-catching to decorate them. In this case, they used a few green sprigs and red berries.
For decorative gifts, you can use a few small drops of glue to keep them from opening. If you’re wrapping real gifts, string will be enough to close them—or opening them will be impossible if you use glue.
