After the excellent experience we had working with Decovil I, which allowed us to bring amazing projects like this pouch or this basket with divider and lid to life, we were encouraged to try its little sister: Decovil Light or Decovil I Light.
It has the same features and uses. In other words, it is also a fusible interfacing (it bonds with heat), it provides structure and shape to our projects, it doesn’t wrinkle, deform, crack, tear, or fray, and it can be put in the washing machine. It’s perfect for making card holders, wallets, bags, cases, belts, hats, footwear, book covers, pouches, baskets, and all kinds of accessories.
I’m sure that once you have it in your hands, a whole host of ideas will come to you.
What’s the difference between Decovil I and Decovil Light?
As you probably know, light means lightweight. And that is precisely what characterizes Decovil Light: it’s the thinner, lighter alternative to regular Decovil. In fact, if you place it over a brightly colored surface, you’ll notice that it is slightly transparent because of its minimal thickness. This also means it’s more flexible and easier to work with: it will take less effort to turn it right side out when you finish sewing a project, and you’ll be able to give the items you make less rigidity without losing their ability to provide shape and structure.
If you’ve used Decovil I before, you won’t need to learn anything new: it’s used exactly the same way. The adhesive side is very easy to distinguish by its shine, while the other side is matte and has a texture similar to leather. To bond it to the fabric, you only need to place a damp cloth over it and run the iron over the top, pausing for about six seconds in each area. After bonding it, it’s recommended that you let it dry for about half an hour.
You can see the entire bonding and sewing process in this great tutorial from the brand, where they show us how to make an adorable doll case with Decovil Light:
And to learn more, don’t miss our other posts where we talk about the features and possibilities of Decovil I, which also apply to Decovil Light. Once you try it, you won’t want to work with other heavy interfacings again: we’ve already made genuine wonders with it, and there are plenty more to come!
Order Decovil Light online and we’ll send it to your home in the blink of an eye.
Have fun!
