Do you know what giant softies are? Or, better yet, do you know what a softie is? We’ve made lots of them at Lulú Ferris, although we don’t usually call them that. The baby elephants, the cactus for decorating, the squishy hearts… All of these creations are softies on a small scale, but sometimes it’s more fun to think big.

As a favorite toy for little ones and a decorative element for their rooms, giant softies have stolen our hearts. Soft, huggable, a little mischievous, fun, and with a sweet, friendly expression.
You don’t need to use patterns: the idea is for them to have very simple shapes that you can draw freehand. Although, as always, you know you can make things as complicated as you like.

Giant softies for little onesWe won’t deny that you’re going to enjoy them a lot too, but the little ones will love them most. As big as they are, so soft and cuddly… You’ll need quite a bit of stuffing, so the easiest thing is to get a few cushions (make sure they’re ugly, so you won’t feel bad gutting them).
You can use pretty fabrics from our shop or recycle clothes you have at home. Both the cactus tutorial and the heart tutorial we linked above will work perfectly for making any shape and size. For you, it’s the perfect decorative element; for them, it’s an inseparable friend. Can you imagine having one of these when you were little? If they’re the right size, you can even use them as a full-size pillow. Just imagine the sweet dreams you must have while sleeping on this gigantic cloud…
It’s important for the fabric you use to be as pleasant and soft as possible, so you can also use knit fabric (as with the recycled sweater). Since you add the stuffing once you’ve already sewn the outside, there’s no problem with the measurements even if you know knit fabric stretches a little.
The truth is that they’ve made us want to make one for ourselves, but we’ll settle for borrowing one from the little ones from time to time (if they ever let go of it).
