We know what you’re thinking—we’ve thought exactly the same thing: “Why join the Lulu Ferris membership when you can find free sewing tutorials online?” We’ve been exactly where you are. It’s hard for us to make ends meet too, and we also scrutinize where we spend every euro.
That’s why it’s important for you to know why the Lulu Ferris membership is worth it and what makes it different. Maybe you’ll see it differently from now on. They say the important thing isn’t the answers but finding the right questions: have you ever asked yourself the ones below?
Lulu Ferris vs. Free Sewing Tutorials:let the battle begin!

What is your time worth?
For us, this is the most important question of all: what is your time worth?
We assume that if you’re looking for free sewing tutorials online, it’s because you like to sew, there’s something you don’t know how to do on your own, and you need guidance. So you start searching, and chaos takes over. There are tons of tutorials, yes—but how long does it take you to find one that’s actually useful?
Sometimes they’re only in English, the photos are so bad you can’t see anything, no explanation is included or the explanation is unclear, there’s no pattern, or there is one but only in a size that isn’t the one you need… Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you can spend hours searching until you find one that’s decent.
What is that time worth? Especially when it’s limited and it’s the only time you have between work and family to do what you love, which is sew, not search the internet. If you want to know our opinion, that time is priceless, and no one can give it back to you.
What is our time worth?
The Lulú Ferris family is bigger than it may seem at first glance. And we’re not referring only to Laura’s three beautiful children, but to the entire team that works to make this happen. Wonderful people who work in the Mataró store, on the website, on social media… What do you think their time is worth?
For a long time, Laura uploaded free sewing tutorials to the Lulú Ferris YouTube channel. It was time from her life that she devoted to sharing the knowledge and advice she would have liked to have when she started. And all that material remains open and free for everyone who can benefit from it.
But as the family grew and we began to create jobs, “free” time was drastically reduced. We’re a team that’s incredibly lucky to make a living doing what we’re passionate about, but for better or worse, we all have to eat!
The need to offer fair working conditions, maintain the store, and at the same time offer an affordable price for every budget led us to the membership site model. And that model is wonderful and simple: a flat rate of $10 USD per month that gives you access to sewing tutorials whose quality is far higher than what we could produce for free. And that brings us to the next question…

When we’re happy with what we do, it shows in EVERYTHING
What’s the difference between free and paid content?
Imagine being able to turn what you love most into your way of life. When you do it as a “hobby,” in your free time, you devote less time to it, and when there’s a conflict of interest, it’s the first thing you give up. You prioritize your work over your hobbies, that’s clear, right?
But when that hobby—in our case, teaching people to sew—becomes your profession, you can devote all your time and energy to it. Then it becomes a priority, something much better.
In our case, moving from free sewing tutorials to the membership has allowed us to create infinitely better tutorials. More complete, better explained, higher quality in every way, more varied, with our own patterns… Tutorials that never fail because we upload a new one every Friday, no matter what, because that’s our job, our priority.
And besides, when something we used to do as a hobby becomes a service, it gains all the advantages of a service: you can ask us for help with your questions. Obviously, that was beyond our reach on YouTube. You’re no longer an anonymous person watching our tutorials: you’re a customer—our customer!—and we’re responsible to you.
Remember: $10 USD per month is about thirty cents a day.
And now ask yourself again: what is time worth?
What is it worth to enjoy doing what you love without any other worries?
