No, you don’t need to spend a fortune at the flower shop or go out into the countryside to look for them. We have a much more fun and long-lasting solution: make them yourself! Choose the colors, texture, materials, and how you want to create them. Whatever your skill level, you’re sure to find the technique that’s right for you in this short list.

Fabric flowers with glue.
If you’re not handy with a needle and have a glue gun, you can make this version. Simply use a fabric ribbon you like and glue it around a rod, creating small gathers. If you cut one edge of the ribbon irregularly before you begin, the “petals” will be more distinct. For a rustic touch, you can also fray it a little. Add a few dry sprigs alongside the flowers, and you’ll have a bouquet that will always look as fresh as it did on the first day.

This type of flower turns out beautifully, and you don’t even need to know how to sew. All you need is a fabric marker, scissors, thread, and a needle. Just create a template like the one in the image to mark the fabric ribbon you’ve chosen, then follow the simple process shown in the photo. If you want irregular petals, you can also skip the template. The best approach is to experiment with different templates and shapes.

This method is a little more labor-intensive because you need to cut out all the petals first. For this type of flower, it’s best to use thick, sturdy fabrics such as felt or burlap so the petals keep their shape. Simply thread the petals one by one, as shown in the photo. If you don’t like the little hole left in the center, you can add a button, a bead, or a small piece of fabric.
Felt flowers with buttons.
In this case, the idea is to combine different shapes and colors to create the “composite” flowers shown in the photo. All you need is felt in various colors, scissors, buttons, a needle, and thread.
If you want a more special, personalized result, you can add different embroideries to the petals, decorate them with snaps, sew on a bead… They’re so easy to make that they can be an ideal activity to do at home with the little ones.
Soft, puffy fabric flowers.
This is a technique we’ve used at Lulu Ferris to make hearts or little stars like the ones in the photo, and they’re perfect for hanging. You can place them in different corners of the house, use them in baby mobiles, hang them from the car’s rearview mirror, use them as a keychain by adding a ring, or put them wherever you like. Crochet flowers.
And here’s the +1, because fabric isn’t the only material you can use to make your flowers. You can crochet them, too. Depending on the finish and size you want, you can use cotton thread, yarn, or even T-shirt yarn, for eye-catching, colorful flowers. This technique lets you make any type of flower; it all depends on your skill with the crochet hook.
