It’s much more than that: it’s an alternative that allows us to be unique and different, stop depending on mass-produced goods, and distance ourselves from their methods of production, which are generally very disrespectful to people and the planet.
This form of crafting also allows us to be more responsible and sensitive toward the environment. The satisfaction is twofold: besides the pride of creating your own exclusive pieces, you know that no person was exploited to make them. Unless, of course, you impose marathon crafting sessions on yourself, but that only means you’re just as hooked as we are.
Another point in favor of DIY as a friend to responsible consumption is that nothing gets thrown away here. Any material left over from your previous project can be reused to make something charming. For example, by recycling fabric scraps.
As part of this philosophy, which aims to make the world a place full of beautiful things but also a more ethical one, we’ve chosen organic cotton, including several styles of eco-friendly fabrics in our craft store. Organic cotton is grown without pesticides, fertilizers, or insecticides, ensuring dignified working conditions and respecting crop rotation. The dyes used to print them are also low-impact and contain neither heavy metals nor PVC.
All these characteristics define the slow fashion movement, changing the throwaway consumption model of use and discard to create durable, sustainable, handcrafted products.
