Taking advantage of the beautiful new spring designs now available in the shop, today we're going to talk about the color yellow, which, although it's often associated with bad luck, is an inexhaustible source of energy.

The color yellow: lively and contradictory

Yellow is an unstable color because the tiniest bit of any other primary color changes its appearance completely. If we add a drop of red, it becomes orange; if the drop is blue, we get green… And perhaps because of this instability, it's a very contradictory color, since it has some very positive qualities and others… not so much. Some of these connotations are psychological and others more cultural: in other words, they aren't universal but relative to a particular culture. In China, for example, yellow is a highly valued and appreciated color that always has a positive meaning.
The color of the sun, light, fun, and optimism

This is one of its most obvious connotations: yellow is the color of the sun and therefore cheers us up. It's friendly and optimistic, bright and full of energy, encouraging activity and enjoyment of life. Have you ever wondered why the famous emoticons are yellow? It's because of these positive associations.
It's also the color of light in the sense of illumination, the color that represents reason and intellect as opposed to red (which represents passion) and blue (which represents spirituality). Because of its bright, cheerful tone, it's stimulating for our minds, activating our ability to reflect and stimulating perception.
Yellow is also the color that best represents spontaneous and impulsive personalities.
Negative connotations: insecurity and dislike

But as we've already told you, yellow is a controversial color: not many people dare to wear it. While in Asia it's the color of happiness and glory, in the Middle Ages it was used in Europe to identify and mark outcasts. This was because of its high visibility: just as we use it today for warning signs, back then it meant that socially stigmatized people (single mothers, prostitutes…) had to wear a garment of this color as a sign of their dishonor. Judas is also depicted wearing yellow… Seen this way, it's no wonder the color has a bad reputation and is considered unlucky to wear.
It's also considered the color of insecurity because other colors can so easily influence it and make it change, as we explained above. However, this characteristic conflicts with its visibility: since it's such a visible color, who would want to wear it while feeling insecure? Yellow attracts attention, and that can't be denied.
But we're very positive, just like the color yellow, and we like to focus on the good side of things.
