A few weeks ago we wrote a post about Decovil I, a new semi-rigid interfacing we brought to the shop and have already experimented with more than once. Today we're going to give you some more suggestions: five great things to make with Decovil so you can keep exploring all the possibilities of this material.
Remember that thanks to its texture and consistency, you'll achieve a perfect balance between rigidity and flexibility in your projects. Also remember that it can be sewn and washed perfectly well and that, because of how firm it is, turning your project right side out requires a little extra effort.

5 Great Things to Make with Decovil
1. Decovil toiletry bag.
This material is perfect for making the kind of rigid toiletry bag that protects your belongings. It was the first thing we made to try out Decovil, and we've made a few more since then to keep exploring its possibilities, because the first one was very simple. The latest one we've made is the one you can see in the photo, with an exterior pocket and flap. You can find the tutorial for this toiletry bag in Lulu Ferris. 2. Basket with a lid.
This is another project made with Decovil that has already gone through our sewing machines. You can use it for a million different things and make it in different sizes (in fact, if you make it small, it can also serve as a toiletry bag). It can be a basket for diapers, sewing or knitting supplies, a picnic or bike basket, something for organizing closets… Decovil is very strong, and with it you'll give your baskets structure and a long life. 3. Bags with Decovil.
In our previous post, we told you about original ways to make DIY bags, but we left one out: bags with Decovil. And it's not just about making a conventional bag using this interfacing—the brand that makes Decovil created this video so you can see how to create, step by step, this curious and original bag shown in the photograph alongside these lines. 4. Wallet with Decovil.
Decovil is also ideal for making wallet-style purses or wallets with multiple compartments. This is one of those projects where it's best to sew the fabric pieces together first, leaving one end open. Once it's finished, you only have to insert the Decovil sheet and close it, as you can see in this Sew Mama Sew post (in English). It's also perfect for making a clutch (somewhere between a wallet and a bag).
5. Laptop or tablet sleeve with Decovil.
Because it's rigid and softly padded, it will also be an excellent material for making a sleeve for your laptop or tablet. Plus, if you don't overcomplicate things, this is a simple project that won't give you too many headaches. You just have to make an envelope-style structure (something we've done lots of times) while adding the Decovil. The best part is that you can make them 100% your own and completely personalized, like the one you can see in the photograph. If you dare, you can also add Kraft Tex as she does with the leather strip at the bottom.
