Upcycling Jeans: 3 Original Ideas

Admit it: you have a whole bunch of jeans in your closet that you don’t wear anymore. The ones that have become too small, too big, outdated, or too ripped and worn out to keep wearing. But you hate to throw them away because they were your favorite jeans and, after everything you’ve been through together… How can you let them end up in the trash? […]

Don’t worry, we have good news for you. Today’s post is about recycling and, more specifically, about some ways to upcycle old jeans and give them a new, long life by your side.

For this project, it will help to put a special denim needle in your machine, since denim is heavier and has some particular characteristics that will make it much easier to achieve a perfect result.

THREE EASY AND BEAUTIFUL IDEAS FOR UPCYCLING OLD JEANS.

1. Phone-charging holders.

It involves making a small pouch from the jeans’ pockets that’s the size of your cell phone, adding a strap that you can hang it from, and joining everything together to get the result shown in the photo. This way, you’ll avoid leaving your phone charging with the cable lying across the floor, tripping over it by accident and sending it flying… Has that ever happened to you? It has to us!

2. A denim apron!

Until now, giving an apron as a gift didn’t seem particularly glamorous, but this isn’t just any apron—it’s a true work of art! At the link above, you’ll find the tutorial (in English) with the entire process shown in photographs. You only need a pair of jeans and another pretty, contrasting fabric to give it that chic touch.

And speaking of aprons, we have a YouTube tutorial where you can learn how to make another style that you’re also going to love.

3. Bags, bags, and more bags.

And not just bags—also coin purses, backpacks, and covers for all kinds of things. Trends come and go, but one thing is certain… denim is always in style! And so is recycling. In this photo, you can see several examples of upcycling old jeans into different bag designs. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with one of them… Or have you already come up with your own idea?

Remember that if you need a little technique along with pure inspiration, we have a couple of video tutorials that are sure to help you turn old jeans into bags: a tote bag tutorial and a pleated bag tutorial. Or do you prefer the multi-purpose bag style?

Have fun giving your old things a new life!
