What you’ll make
Sew a soft knit slipcover for the BabyBjörn bouncer shown in class. It fits over the existing cover and includes shaped upper, seat, and crotch sections with the openings needed for the straps.
A spare cover provides another option to use while the original is being cleaned.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut mirrored and on-fold pieces from the downloadable pattern.
- Reinforce the buttonhole areas with fusible interfacing.
- Mark, sew, and open buttonholes with a buttonhole foot and seam ripper.
- Match centers before joining the curved upper and seat sections.
- Assemble the front and back while preserving the crotch and strap openings.
- Finish knit seams with a serger or straight stitching and a zigzag edge finish.
Why knit fabric matters
Use knit fabric for the stretch needed to fit over the bouncer and for a softer surface over its original canvas cover. The class warns that nonstretch woven fabric may be too tight.
Use a ballpoint needle for the knit. A walking foot can help feed the layers evenly.
Make it your own
Use one knit throughout or combine two, placing a contrast fabric on the reverse or selected sections. Track which side should remain visible during assembly.
Hem the lower edge for a neat finish. You can also add the optional elastic loops shown at the back to help hold the cover in place.
