What you’ll make
Make a men’s crew-neck T-shirt with the included S–XL pattern. The demonstrated shirt has short sleeves, and the construction can be adapted for long sleeves.
This simple wardrobe basic can be repeated in different fabrics or personalized with a pocket, appliqué or printed design.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Distinguish the front and back necklines on the shared body pattern.
- Set up a sewing machine for knit fabric.
- Match the notches and sew sleeves into open armholes.
- Quarter and attach the stretch neckband evenly.
- Finish seams with a serger or zigzag stitch.
- Sew sleeve and body hems with a twin needle.
Fabric choices
The class version uses knit fabric with a small amount of elastane. Use a ballpoint, jersey or stretch needle, and add a walking foot if available.
The body can also be made from 100% cotton fabric, but the neckband must stretch enough to pass comfortably over the head.
Make it your own
Choose short sleeves or adapt their length for a long-sleeved version.
Add a pocket with the sleeveless kids’ T-shirt tutorial.
Add appliqué or print a design with the stenciling technique.
Pattern sizes
The included pattern covers men’s sizes S, M, L and XL.
The video demonstrates conventional-machine and serger finishing options. A downloadable A4 pattern provides the shirt pieces.
