Bassinet/Carrycot Footmuff
In today’s class, I’ll show you how to sew a simple but beautiful footmuff for a bassinet or carrycot. The PDF includes the measurements, and the video explains how to adapt them for other sizes.

What you’ll make
Sew a lined footmuff for a bassinet or carrycot. When closed, the standard version measures approximately 45 cm wide × 70 cm high.
A zipper along the bottom lets it open fully. Inner and outer side ties secure the folded sections, while snap-fastened flaps provide two closing positions.
The design also includes a small tab for attaching a pacifier holder.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Mark the folding sections and closure positions.
- Install a zipper between thick fabric layers.
- Sew and turn the lined body through an opening.
- Add side loops and ties.
- Make a pacifier-holder attachment tab.
- Position snaps for two flap settings.
Fabric and materials
The sample pairs a quilted outer fabric with a soft sherpa lining. These warm layers are used without additional filling.
For colder conditions, you can add batting. You will also need a zipper, snaps and ribbon or cord for the loops and ties.
Make it your own
If the standard size does not suit your carrycot, measure it before cutting. The class explains how to resize the main rectangle while preserving its folding sections.
Choose ribbon or cord for the ties, vary the number of ties and position the snaps to control how closely the flaps wrap.

The standard footmuff measures approximately 45 cm wide × 70 cm high when closed. The PDF provides the base measurements, and the class explains how to adapt them.
