What you’ll make

The Begur is a flowing, open-front vest with low front and back necklines. Gathered lower tiers and lace-trim joins create a light, floor-length layer with generous movement.

Wear it over a swimsuit, dress, shorts or jeans, or adapt the design into a shorter vest, top or closed-front dress.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Stabilize lightweight fabric with stay tape without stretching the pieces.
  • Join the shoulders and finish the neckline and armholes cleanly.
  • Organize and assemble tiers that increase in length toward the hem.
  • Gather long sections in stages and align their corresponding seams.
  • Apply lace trim while keeping the gathers balanced.
  • Finish the long opening and add an optional tie or closure.

Fabric and trim

Choose a lightweight fabric with fluid drape, such as muslin, voile, double gauze, fine cotton, lightweight linen, fine poplin, viscose or chiffon.

The sample uses 6 cm-wide lace trim. A narrower or wider trim changes the finished length, so check the tier proportions and hem before completing the garment.

Make it your own

Sew all three gathered tiers for the floor-length version, omit tiers for a shorter vest or use only the upper section as a top. You can also make a short version without tiers.

Add a cord tie, hook, button, snap or fabric bow, or leave the front open. For a dress version, close the front like the back or add a suitable closure.

Sizes and finished length

The pattern covers sizes S through XL. The chart spans bust measurements of 86–132 cm, waists of 64–110 cm and hips of 90–136 cm.

With 6 cm-wide lace trim, the approximate finished length ranges from 1.52 m in size S to 1.55 m in size XL. Changing the trim or tiers changes the length.

The complete video class includes the Begur pattern in A4 and A0 formats, plus a separate information file with the size chart and finished lengths.
