What you’ll make

Create an XL fabric Advent calendar with 24 numbered pockets and hanging loops at the top.

The finished calendar measures approximately 80 cm high by 70 cm wide. Its larger pockets provide room for more than one small treat or gift when children share the countdown.

Sew the ready-printed fabric panel or create the design with your own fabrics and the full-size PDF templates.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Cut and hem pockets from a printed panel.
  • Position pockets with the panel’s placement guides.
  • Divide marked sections into separate pockets.
  • Secure hanging cord or ribbon before assembly.
  • Layer the front, batting, and backing.
  • Turn the panel and close the final opening.

Fabric choices

For the printed-panel version, add backing fabric, batting, and cord or ribbon for hanging. The sample uses a plain woven fabric such as poplin for the back.

For a custom calendar, choose fabrics for the base, pockets, numbers, letters, and decorative shapes.

Make it your own

  • Use the ready-printed panel for a cut-and-sew version.
  • Combine your own solids and prints with the full-size pocket templates.
  • Add appliqué numbers, letters, trees, hearts, or stars from the included templates.
  • Choose cord, ribbon, or lace for the hanging loops.

If appliqué is new to you, the fabric appliqué art tutorial offers more practice with the technique.

Finished size

The completed calendar is approximately 80 cm high by 70 cm wide. The design and its pockets are intentionally larger than many ready-printed panels.

The class includes the sewing demonstration and a PDF with the full-size base and pocket pattern, two alphabet sizes, numbers, and decorative shapes.
