What you’ll make
Sew a padded cloud with hanging raindrops and optional battery-powered LED lights. Use it as room decor, a mobile, a photo display, a room divider, or a soft night-light.
The project has a removable inner cushion and an overlapping outer cover, allowing access to the battery pack and letting you wash the decorative cover separately.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew smooth cloud curves and clip them before turning.
- Make a stuffed insert with access to the lights and batteries.
- Create an overlapping back with hook-and-loop tape.
- Secure hanging cords within the cloud seam.
- Stitch fabric raindrops around the cords.
- Use stronger stitching for a firmly stuffed cushion.
Fabric and supplies
The demonstrated version uses white poplin for the inner cushion and decorative woven fabric for the cover. You will also need stuffing, cord, hook-and-loop tape, and optional battery-powered LED lights.
Make it your own
Leave out the lights for a cloud cushion, photo display, or room divider. Adjust the number, length, and spacing of the rain cords, add as many drops as you like, or use transparent fishing line.
Use a single top loop for wall hanging or two hanging points when using the cloud as a divider. You can also adapt the project to another simple hanging shape.
The complete video class includes the cloud pattern and demonstrates both the removable illuminated insert and the decorative outer cover.
