What you’ll make

Sew a padded, lined Dénia Sleeve for an e-reader, tablet, laptop, book or documents. The pattern includes three sizes for different contents.

The featured version pieces leftover fabric strips directly onto batting to create a colorful quilted exterior.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Piece fabric strips over batting to create stable quilted exterior panels.
  • Press, secure and trim padded panels without losing their intended shape.
  • Join the lining and exterior with a neat topstitched upper edge.
  • Position a closure while allowing room for the sleeve’s contents.
  • Sew layered curves and corners, reduce bulk and turn the sleeve cleanly.
  • Close the turning opening for a tidy finish inside and out.

Fabric and padding

Use assorted woven scraps for the exterior or cut it from one fabric. Add lining and batting for padding.

Polyester batting creates a loftier result, while cotton batting can be more compact. Check that your chosen batting tolerates pressing before applying heat.

Make it your own

Replace the pieced strips with one exterior fabric, then quilt straight lines, diagonals, squares or another stitched design to secure the layers.

Choose hook-and-loop tape, snaps or a button for the closure. You can also adjust a pattern size to suit the item you plan to carry.

Finished sizes

  • Small: approximately 18 × 14 cm.
  • Medium: approximately 28 × 20 cm.
  • Large: approximately 33 × 25 cm.

The class includes one printable A4 pattern with small, medium and large sleeve templates.
