What you’ll make
Make the Denver, a rectangular belt bag designed to be worn across the chest on an adjustable webbing strap.
It has a zippered main compartment, an interior divider pocket, an open exterior pocket with a hook closure and a small zippered front pocket.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Organize and prepare the outer and lining pieces.
- Install the small front-pocket zipper.
- Attach the hardware for the open-pocket closure.
- Sandwich the main zipper between the outer fabric and lining.
- Match notches while shaping the sides and base.
- Assemble and close the lining cleanly.
- Thread and secure the adjustable webbing strap.
Fabric and supplies
Use a structured but manageable exterior fabric, such as canvas, denim, corduroy or soft faux leather. Avoid faux leather that is too stiff to manipulate comfortably.
Poplin or quilting cotton works for the lining. The project also uses zippers, bag webbing, a strap slider, rectangular hardware and a swivel hook.
Make it your own
Combine solid and printed fabrics, choose which direction the zippers open and use straight, zigzag, parallel or decorative stitching where secure topstitching is needed.
