What you’ll make
Sew a fully lined children’s dragon backpack with padded crests and a playful tail. A zipper keeps books, stories, and small belongings inside.
The decorative details turn a practical bag into a prop for imaginative play, while webbing shoulder straps make it easy to carry.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Pad, turn, and shape pointed dragon crests.
- Make a tail with a padded heart or triangle tip.
- Shorten a zipper and finish it with fabric tabs.
- Install a zipper between exterior and lining panels.
- Position and reinforce the straps and tail.
- Turn the backpack through the lining opening.
Fabric and supplies
Use exterior fabric, lining, batting scraps for the crests and tail details, backpack webbing, and a zipper.
A walking foot can help feed bulky layers. Close the lining opening by machine or with the invisible stitch.
Make it your own
Change the size or number of crests, and choose a heart or triangle for the tail tip. Fit the webbing length to the child.

Sizing
The finished backpack measures approximately 26 cm wide by 38 cm high. Webbing length depends on the child, and strap adjusters are optional.
