What you’ll make
Sew the Dustin, a children’s school smock with raglan sleeves, front buttons, two patch pockets and long sleeves gathered with elastic at the cuffs.
The pattern includes two collar shapes—a rounded option and a V-shaped option—so the same practical smock can have two distinct looks.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize curved necklines and diagonal raglan seams.
- Interface the collar and front button bands.
- Prepare, position and reinforce patch pockets.
- Match notches to join the raglan sleeves to the front and back.
- Construct, clip, turn and attach the selected collar.
- Finish the button bands for buttons and buttonholes.
- Create cuff casings, insert elastic and close the openings.
Make it your own
Choose the rounded or V-shaped collar supplied with the pattern. Topstitching or a decorative machine stitch can add detail around a solid collar or the pocket openings.
Use one pocket, two or none, and adjust their size or position. Finish the sleeves with elasticized cuffs, plain hems or shorter sleeves with rib-knit cuffs.
Sizing
The pattern runs from ages 2/3 through 12/13. Its height references range from 100 to 152 cm.
The chart also provides chest measurements of 55–79 cm, waists of 52–68 cm and hips of 57–81 cm. Choose a size using the child’s measurements.
