In this class, we’ll sew some very easy multipurpose fabric baskets with a handle for hanging when needed. It’s the perfect tutorial for beginners, and the pattern includes two sizes.

What you’ll make
Sew lined, multipurpose fabric baskets in two sizes. Each basket has a fabric loop and can stand on a surface or hang wherever you need compact storage.
Use the smaller basket for sewing notions, clips or other little items. The larger basket can organize thread, clothing, diapers or toys, or serve as a decorative cover for a plant pot.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Make hanging loops suited to each basket size.
- Add batting or interfacing to give the basket structure.
- Sew the exterior and lining, including the boxed base corners.
- Join the layers and turn the basket through a planned opening.
- Close the opening by machine or with an invisible hand stitch.
- Add optional edge topstitching for a crisp finish.
Fabric and materials
Each basket uses an exterior fabric, a lining and either batting or interfacing. Batting creates a fuller result, while interfacing produces a less bulky basket that can be easier to turn.
Make it your own
Before assembly, personalize the front with a label, appliqué, stitched name or clear plastic label window. This is especially useful on the smaller basket, where access becomes limited later.
Choose the size that fits your intended use, whether you need a small hanging organizer or a larger freestanding basket.
