What you’ll make

Sew a loose, drapey knit top with long sleeves, a wide boat neckline and extended front ties that form an adjustable knot.

The relaxed body and front knot create shape without making the top close-fitting. The wide neckline can sit evenly or fall toward one shoulder.

Fabric choice changes the finished look, allowing the same pattern to feel casual or more polished.

What you’ll learn in this class

Cut on the fold and follow the grainline on a drapey knit.
Apply front and back facings to a boat neckline.
Enclose the facing ends while joining the shoulders.
Set sleeves into the open body without stretching the fabric.
Sew continuous sleeve and side seams with a stretch finish.
Secure the lower seam allowances before tying the knot.

Fabric

Use a stretch knit with fluid drape. The demonstrated floral modal creates the soft fall shown in class, and the source also presents a solid modal version.

Sew with a ballpoint needle. Finish seams with a serger, zigzag or another stretch stitch so the knit can move without breaking the stitching.

Make it your own

Wear the boat neckline centered or shifted toward one shoulder. The sleeves are intentionally long, but the class supports shortening them or making them three-quarter length.

Finish the neckline with the supplied facings or a serged and turned edge.

Style it with a pencil skirt or leggings.

The pattern includes S, M, L and XL, with chest, waist and hip measurements supplied for choosing a size.
