What you’ll make

Gael is a clean-lined men’s jacket with a front zipper, shirt-style collar, cuffs and full lining. Its simple shape makes it a practical everyday layer that changes character with the fabric.

The original has a minimalist, pocket-free front, but patch pockets can be added if desired.

What you’ll learn in this class

Cut the outer fabric and lining from the shared back pattern piece.
Stabilize curves and bias edges to prevent distortion.
Form the ease pleat in the back lining.
Assemble the body, cuffs and set-in sleeves.
Construct and attach the shirt-style collar.
Align the zipper before joining the outer jacket and lining.
Turn the jacket through a lining opening and finish the interior.

Choosing your fabric

Wool coating creates a warmer, more polished jacket. Denim, corduroy or twill give the same pattern a more casual feel. Pair the outer fabric with a lightweight lining to limit bulk.

A heavier cloth suits colder weather. A finer fabric creates a lighter transitional layer and can also be used without lining for an overshirt-style version.

Make it your own

Add patch pockets sized and positioned for the wearer.
Topstitch the collar or other outer edges for extra definition.
Use a finer fabric and omit the lining for an overshirt variation.
Add a hanging loop before joining the lining.

Pattern sizing

The pattern covers grouped sizes 34/36 through 54/56. The included chart provides body measurements and finished jacket and sleeve lengths for each size group.

The video demonstrates the lined construction, collar, cuffs and zipper without reducing the project to written instructions. A4 and A0 pattern files and a project information sheet are included.
