What you’ll make

Build a practical posture routine for sewing sessions, from arranging your workstation to taking movement breaks and releasing tension afterward.

Postural fitness instructor Ana Belén examines common sewing positions and demonstrates ways to become more aware of how you sit and move.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Position the machine and pedal to reduce reaching.
  • Sit on the sit bones and lengthen through the crown.
  • Adapt a stool or chair for a more upright position.
  • Mobilize the neck, shoulders, chest, back, and spine.
  • Practice gentle breathing, chest opening, and rotation.
  • Distinguish mobility work from strengthening exercises.

Make it your own

The class offers seated, standing, hands-and-knees, prone, and lying-down options. The gentler release sequence can be practiced on a mat or in bed.

Adapt the breaks to your sewing session. The instructor also explains how cushions and furniture height can change your seated position.

The class combines workstation guidance, posture cues, active movement breaks, and an end-of-day release sequence for people who spend time sewing.
