I’d been wanting to make a dress like this for a while, and with the holidays approaching, now is the perfect time to bring it to life. It’s a long-sleeved, floor-length wrap dress that ties at the side. For the sleeve finish, you’ll find two options in the […]

What you’ll make
Sew a floor-length wrap dress with long sleeves, bust darts, a full skirt, and ties that wrap around the back before fastening at the side.
Choose a standard sleeve or add the pattern’s flounced cuff, which falls to about the middle of the hand.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize bias-cut wrap edges.
- Sew bust darts and prepare the back-neck facing.
- Make and attach the waist ties.
- Finish the wrap neckline and side tie opening.
- Set the sleeves and close the long side seams.
- Finish a flounce with a narrow or rolled hem.
Choosing your fabric
Choose a drapey woven fabric so the full skirt and wrap front move fluidly. The featured dress uses winter-weight viscose.
The class uses a fine needle for the lightweight fabric and stabilizing tape along the bias-cut front edges.
Make it your own
Use the standard long sleeve or add the flounced cuff. You can also shorten the sleeve to a short or three-quarter length.
Make the ties from the dress fabric, or substitute a suitable ribbon or decorative trim.
Sizing
The included pattern covers sizes S–XXL. The full-length pieces require generous space for accurate cutting and handling.
The class demonstrates both sleeve finishes and two methods for neatly hemming the circular flounce.
