What you’ll make

Sew the Kate, a loose-fitting, full-length jumpsuit with a button front, three-quarter sleeves, buttoned roll-up tabs and side patch pockets.

Wear its relaxed silhouette loose or add a belt to define the waist and create the appearance of separate top and pants pieces.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Stabilize curved and bias-cut edges with stay tape or staystitching.
  • Reinforce button, buttonhole and neckline areas when needed.
  • Sew sleeve tabs and position them with their buttons.
  • Ease sleeve caps into the armholes without unwanted gathers.
  • Shape, press and topstitch curved patch pockets.
  • Assemble the legs, crotch and inseam.
  • Finish the neckline and overlapping button bands.

Fabric options

The demonstrated version uses chambray. Other supported choices include linen, cotton, lightweight denim, viscose and satin, depending on the drape and finish you want.

Knit fabric can also be used, but it requires a ballpoint needle and stitches or overlock finishing suited to stretch fabric.

Make it your own

Wear the jumpsuit loose or add a separate belt. Shorten the sleeves, extend them for a long-sleeve version or omit the roll-up treatment.

The legs can also be shortened for a romper-style variation. Make length changes to the pattern before cutting.

Sizing and fit

The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. The chart spans bust measurements of 86–132 cm, waists of 64–110 cm and hips of 90–136 cm.

Finished length ranges from 142 cm in size 34/36 to 152 cm in size 54/56. Consult all three body measurements when selecting a size.

The video class includes A4 and A0 pattern files and a separate PDF with the size chart and essential project information.
