What you’ll make

Make a lined, round zippered coin purse with room for coins, cards, folded bills, or keys. Its compact format offers more organization than loose pockets without becoming a full-size wallet.

Interfacing adds support, bias tape gives the curved interior seams a clean finish, and a chunky-tooth zipper adds a bold detail.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Fuse interfacing to the exterior or lining fabric.
  • Shorten and install a zipper between outer fabric and lining.
  • Mark quarter points to align circular pieces.
  • Sew a zipper section around a curve with a zipper foot.
  • Move the zipper pull out of the sewing path.
  • Bind curved interior seams with bias tape.

Materials

You’ll use exterior fabric, lining, fusible interfacing, a zipper, and bias tape. Check the orientation of directional prints when aligning the round panels with the zipper section.

Make it your own

Add elastic or a small pocket to an interior panel to hold cards and bills separately. The curved seams may also be finished with a serger or zigzag instead of bias tape.

The purse fits inside the summer fanny pack. Pair it with a Kraft-Tex glasses case for another compact accessory.

Finished size

The completed purse is approximately 13 cm in diameter. The downloadable PDF includes the circular pattern and measurements for the zipper section.

The video class and printable pattern cover the curved construction from stabilizing the fabric and placing the zipper through finishing the interior seams.
