What you’ll make
Sew the Laura Trousers: a regular-rise design fitted through the waist and hips with a straight leg. Front and back patch pockets, small back darts and a waistband complete the shape.
The trousers have a zipper fly and either a button and buttonhole or a snap at the waistband. Add belt loops and jeans-style topstitching, or choose simpler stitching for a dressier finish.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew back darts for shaping through the waist and hips.
- Prepare and topstitch curved and square patch pockets.
- Construct a zipper fly with a fly shield and J-shaped topstitching.
- Join and finish the trouser seams.
- Add optional double-needle topstitching for a jeans-style finish.
- Attach the waistband, make belt loops and finish the closure and hem.
Fabric guidance
Use denim or another trouser-weight fabric with a small amount of stretch. That flexibility helps the close-fitting seat and hips move comfortably.
For a jeans-style version, use thread designed for denim and optional double-needle topstitching on selected seams and pockets. Use regular stitching when your fabric or preferred finish is less jeans-like.
Make it your own
Keep all four patch pockets, omit some or personalize them with decorative stitching. For a cargo-inspired version, add suitable pockets before closing the outer leg seams.
You can also narrow the straight leg, reshape it into a flare or shorten it for summer. These are optional pattern adaptations rather than part of the standard Laura silhouette.

The pattern covers sizes 34–56. Its chart spans a 64–112 cm waist and 90–138 cm hips. The listed finished length ranges from 103 cm in size 34 to 108.5 cm in size 56.
