What you’ll make

Sew the Leah, an easy kimono-style robe with relaxed sleeves, a continuous lapel and neck band, belt loops, and a self-fabric tie belt.

The sample falls around mid-calf and works as a lightweight robe or kimono-style layer, depending on the fabric and styling.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Cut mirrored and fold-cut garment pieces correctly.
  • Staystitch curved and bias-cut edges before they stretch out of shape.
  • Assemble and press the lapel and back-neck pieces into one band.
  • Join the shoulders, attach the band, and sew the sleeves.
  • Sew and turn the tie belt and make matching belt loops.
  • Check the sleeve and robe lengths before hemming.

Fabric choices

The sample uses lightweight viscose for fluid movement. Other options include knit, mini-waffle, terry cloth, quilted fabric, sweatshirt fabric, or a velvety fabric.

For a thicker fabric, test three combined layers first because the lapel area places the band layers over the main robe.

Make it your own

Lengthen the front, back, and lapel pieces equally for a floor-length robe. Try on the robe before fixing the sleeve hems, lower hem, and belt-loop position.

For matching lounge shorts, adapt the Valencia shorts by omitting the pockets and adding the small hem ruffle shown with the robe.

Pattern sizing

The included robe pattern covers sizes 34 through 52.

The easy-level class includes the robe video lesson and a downloadable PDF pattern.
