What you’ll make

Sew a warm kids’ pullover with a high collar, kangaroo pocket, and snap-front opening. Front and back yokes provide natural places to combine colors or prints.

Knit binding finishes the collar, cuffs, and lower edge while drawing them in slightly. The result is a cozy layer for cooler days.

What you’ll learn in this class

Prepare and bind the kangaroo pocket.
Join the front and back yokes.
Build and neatly finish the high collar.
Assemble the overlapping front plackets.
Set the sleeves using the pattern notches.
Stretch binding evenly at the cuffs and hem.
Install snaps at the placket.

Fabric and sewing choices

Choose a warm knit such as fleece, French terry, or brushed sweatshirt fabric. Use an elastic rib knit or cuffing for the collar, cuff, and hem bindings.

A ballpoint, jersey, or stretch needle suits these knits. The class covers straight stitch, zigzag, and serger-style finishing options for different machines.

Make it your own

Combine contrasting fabrics across the yokes, collar, and bindings. The included binding pieces can also be replaced with fold-over elastic or elastic bias binding where suitable.

Finish the cuffs and lower edge with conventional sweatshirt ribbing if preferred. The snap positions are marked, but you can adjust their arrangement for your version.

Sizing

The pattern includes children’s sizes 2/3A through 12/13A. The chart covers heights from 100 to 152 cm and provides chest, waist, and hip measurements for selecting a size.
