What you’ll make

The Mallorca is a large crossbody belt bag designed to be worn across the front or back. Its adjustable webbing strap attaches with hardware at both ends.

Storage includes a small top pocket, a full-width front pocket with a zipper concealed beneath a flap, and a roomy zippered main compartment.

Inside is another zippered pocket, while the back has a separate zippered pocket for items you want to keep close.

Fabric and structure

The sample pairs a medium-bodied cotton outer fabric with poplin lining and lightweight interfacing. Canvas is also suitable for the exterior.

Choose interfacing according to your fabric and how structured you want the bag to feel. Heavier canvas may need no interfacing and can create thicker seam intersections.

Make it your own

The back and interior pockets can be omitted. You can also duplicate the interior pocket on the opposite lining panel or add more pockets where useful.

Choose the opening direction of each zipper before installation. For a softer or firmer bag, change the interfacing weight or omit it when the outer fabric already has enough body.

Enclose the interior seams with bias binding as demonstrated, or finish them with a serger or machine overcasting stitch.

Finished size

The finished belt bag measures approximately 50 cm long, 20 cm wide, and 8 cm deep.
