What you’ll make

Sew high-rise palazzo pants with wide legs, an elastic waistband and small openings at the ankles. A crossed front seam adds definition to the flowing silhouette.

The waistband has belt loops and a long self-fabric tie belt. Depending on the knit, the same design can look relaxed, sporty or more polished.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Prepare and sew a stretch knit with suitable needles and seams.
  • Join and control the crossed front seams.
  • Construct and reinforce the ankle openings.
  • Assemble the legs, inseams and crotch seam.
  • Insert waistband elastic without twisting it.
  • Sew a turned tie belt and attach belt loops.

Choosing the knit

Use a knit with stretch, movement and drape. The samples use brushed rib knit and viscose jacquard knit; the jacquard example contains at least 2% elastane.

Modal or viscose can add fluid movement. A firmer knit or stretch sweatshirt fabric is also possible, but it will produce a more structured, tracksuit-like result.

Make it your own

Topstitch the front leg seams when the fabric needs help lying flat, or leave them unstitched when a softer knit settles neatly on its own.

Add two, three or four belt loops—or omit them and the tie belt. Finish the hems with straight, twin-needle or zigzag stitching to suit your machine and fabric.

Style the pants with the London Bodysuit or T-Shirt and the Eliza Cardigan.

Sizes and measurements

The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. Its chart spans waists from 64–70 cm to 104–110 cm and hips from 90–96 cm to 130–136 cm.

The listed total pants length ranges from 96 cm in size 34/36 to 101 cm in size 54/56.

The class includes the sewing demonstration, graded A4 and A0 patterns, and an information file with the measurement chart.
