What you’ll make
Sew a slim fabric card holder with clear interior pockets for transit cards, health cards, photos, or anything else you want to identify at a glance.
The demonstrated version has three pockets and folds into a compact holder. The accompanying pattern also provides a two-pocket option.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Fuse stabilizer between the exterior and lining fabrics.
- Bind the clear pocket openings with bias tape.
- Secure plastic without leaving unnecessary pinholes.
- Stitch close to the edges without reducing the pocket space.
- Sew the dividing and fold lines for a tidy finish.
Materials and fabric
Use coordinating or matching fabrics, medium-weight stabilizer, clear plastic, and bias tape. The stabilizer gives the holder structure while allowing it to fold.
Transparent thread is demonstrated on the plastic but is optional. Test your thread, needle, and tension on a scrap before sewing the pockets.
Make it your own
Choose the two- or three-pocket format to suit what you carry. Mix the exterior and lining prints, or use the same fabric throughout.
Add appliqué, embroidery, or a small personalized kraft-tex label.
