Mini Phone Crossbody Wallet
In this sewing tutorial, I’ll show you how to sew a crossbody bag for your phone. It also has two front pockets for cards—or a face mask—and a zippered back pocket for coins.

What you’ll make
Sew a compact crossbody wallet with room for a phone and a few essentials. It has two front slip pockets for cards or bills and a zippered pocket on the back for coins.
A lined flap closes over the main compartment. The sample uses a button-and-cord closure and a strap attached to rings at the sides.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Add interfacing when a fine fabric needs more body.
- Finish pocket edges and install the rear zipper.
- Sew a lined flap with an enclosed cord loop.
- Layer the front pockets on the main panel.
- Shape the lower corners for depth.
- Join the exterior, flap, and lining.
- Attach the strap to side rings.
Fabric and supplies
The sample upcycles old jeans and uses cotton for the lining. Canvas, patchwork cotton, or another woven fabric can also be used.
Add interfacing to poplin or another fine fabric when more structure is needed. You will also need a zipper, rings, a strap, and your chosen closure.
Make it your own
Replace the button-and-cord closure with snaps, hook-and-loop tape, a magnetic snap, or another suitable fastening. Decorative trim can be added to the flap or pockets.
Add swivel hooks for a removable strap or a slider for adjustability. The strap can be made from fabric or cut from a sturdy seam on a pair of jeans.
Finished size
The finished bag measures approximately 16.5 x 10.5 cm and was drafted around a phone measuring 15 x 7.5 cm. Enlarge the pieces if your phone is bigger.
