What you’ll make

Sew the Munich, a long-sleeve knit sweater with cuffs, a waistband and a high, overlapping shawl collar.

The collar creates a warm, polished neckline without requiring a closure. The class presents it as a men’s design while noting that anyone may wear it.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Identify a knit’s direction of greatest stretch.
  • Cut mirrored pieces and pieces on the fold.
  • Match sleeve notches and set in the sleeves.
  • Assemble the overlapping shawl collar.
  • Test the collar before finishing its seams.
  • Distribute stretch through cuffs and waistband.
  • Sew knits with a standard machine or serger.

Suitable knit fabrics

Use a knit with some stretch. The sample is made from a soft, brushed rib knit with a sweater-like texture.

Other sweater knits are suitable, while sweatshirt knit gives the design a sportier look. Use a needle intended for the stretch fabric you choose.

Make it your own

Leave the overlapping collar unfastened or add one or two buttons as functional or decorative details. Fabric choice can shift the sweater from polished to casual.

Size and body measurements

The pattern includes sizes 34/36 through 54/56.

  • Chest: 86–90 cm through 122–130 cm.
  • Waist: 66–74 cm through 106–114 cm.
  • Hip: 78–86 cm through 118–126 cm.

Use the complete measurement chart to choose a size.

The video class includes multi-size A4 and A0 patterns and demonstrates the sweater from knit preparation through the final bands.
