What you’ll make

The Nora is a children’s knit jumpsuit with a tank-style top, elastic waist, and retro-inspired shorts. The shorts have side pockets, contrast binding, and distinctive rounded side openings.

You can also use the pattern to make a coordinated two-piece set with a separate tank top and elastic-waist shorts.

Three classes cover the full jumpsuit, an alternative shorts construction, and the standalone top with a wide knit or rib-knit hem band.

What you’ll learn in these classes

  • Sew stretch fabric with suitable needles and stitches or a serger.
  • Finish a knit neckline and armholes with folded bands.
  • Shape and secure the shorts’ side pockets.
  • Sew contrast binding and rounded side openings in two ways.
  • Assemble an elastic waistband and adjust the fit.
  • Add optional buttonholes or eyelets for a drawstring.
  • Finish the top with a wide knit or rib-knit band.

Fabric

This pattern must be made in stretch knit fabric. Stretch is especially important for the jumpsuit because the garment is pulled on through the upper opening.

The class demonstrates jersey and explains how band length may need adjustment when rib knit or another fabric has more or less stretch and recovery.

Make it your own

Make the complete jumpsuit, only the shorts, only the tank, or both separates. The top can be lengthened into a longer shirt or mini dress.

Choose between two methods for the shorts’ side finish and two approaches to the armhole bands. Add a functional drawstring, a decorative tie, or leave the waistband plain.

The separate top’s hem band can include elastic or be left loose. Adjust any elastic before closing the opening to suit the wearer and the firmness of the elastic.

Sizes and measurements

The pattern includes seven sizes, from 2/3 through 14/15. The chart spans heights of 95–170 cm.

Across the full range, the chart covers chest measurements of 50–86 cm, waists of 49–72 cm, and hips of 54–88 cm. Use the complete chart to select a size.

The project includes three video classes plus printable patterns in A4 for home printing and A0 for a copy shop.
