What you’ll make

Sew a long-sleeve wrap-front blouse designed for easy nursing access. The crossed fronts open readily, while gathers below the crossover provide a loose, draped fit through the torso.

A wide lower band shapes the hem, while optional elastic creates gathered cuffs. The finished top also works as an everyday blouse beyond nursing or postpartum wear.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Cut fold-line and mirrored pieces in stretch fabric.
  • Finish the back neckline with a facing.
  • Form and secure the front gathers.
  • Enclose the shoulder seams.
  • Attach the sleeves and sew the side seams.
  • Align the wrap fronts with the lower band.
  • Create optional elastic cuffs.

Fabric and supplies

Use stretch fabric with good drape. The class sample uses soft modal, and a stretch velour version provides a warmer alternative with a velvety finish.

Use a ballpoint or stretch needle. A walking foot and serger can help, but the class also uses zigzag stitching as a regular-machine option for finishing stretch seams.

Make it your own

Either wrap front may sit on top. For a closer fit at the lower edge, make the band slightly smaller or add elastic inside it.

Elastic cuffs are optional; use a standard sleeve hem instead if you prefer. For pattern help, see how to use a PDF sewing pattern.

Sizing

The pattern is available in S, M, L and XL. Stretch fabric, the draped crossover and front gathers create a flexible, loose-fitting shape through the torso.

The intermediate video class and downloadable multi-size pattern cover the wrap construction, gathered front, lower band and cuff options.
