What you’ll make
Sew a compact zippered case that keeps over-ear headphones together at home or inside a backpack or bag.
The case opens widely and has a softly structured shape. Its approximate finished dimensions are 16.5 cm wide, 19.5 cm high and 3 cm deep.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Insert and topstitch a zipper in structured fabric.
- Join the zipper strip to the base section.
- Use center marks and notches to align the matching side panels.
- Sew rounded seams while managing structured layers.
- Trim curved seam allowances so the seams lie smoothly.
- Finish the interior with bias binding or another suitable edge finish.
Choose a softly structured fabric
The sample uses softshell, which supplies body, softness and protection without a separate lining.
Other options include quilted fabric, foam-backed cloth, neoprene or fabric padded with thin batting. An unpadded fabric can work, but it will not provide the same cushioning.
Make it your own
Use coordinating or contrasting bias binding inside, or finish the seam allowances with an overlocker, an overcast stitch or pinking shears when suitable for your fabric.
Quilting your own outer fabric lets you use a favorite print while adding structure. The compact pattern pieces also make the case suitable for padded remnants.
Check your headphones
The stated dimensions fit many over-ear headphone models, but shapes vary. Compare your folded headphones with the finished measurements before cutting.
The pattern can be enlarged for a bigger model, but the zipper length, base and every affected pattern piece must be adjusted together.
