What you’ll make
Create a cuddly rabbit pillow that also stores pajamas. A roomy rear pocket gives children an easy place to tuck away sleepwear while the pillow decorates their room.
Oversized ears, stitched whiskers, and a round tail create the animal character. A snap closure lets you remove the 45 × 45 cm pillow insert for washing.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut and handle sherpa and waffle fabrics.
- Finish the pocket edges and sew its upper hem.
- Sew, turn, and press the shaped ears.
- Appliqué and lightly stuff the round tail.
- Create whiskers with guided zigzag stitching.
- Assemble the pocket and cover and add snaps.
Fabric and sewing choices
The sample combines soft sherpa for the pillow body and tail with mint waffle fabric for the pocket and ears. The class stabilizes stretchy fabric where needed.
A serger is optional. Zigzag or an overcasting stitch can finish the edges, while a walking foot can help feed the thick layered sections.
Make it your own
Use waffle on both sides of the ears, combine waffle and sherpa, or use sherpa throughout. The PDF also offers ideas for adapting the pillow into other animals.
Use snaps for the removable cover as shown, or substitute hook-and-loop tape. The tail can remain flat or be lightly stuffed for dimension.
