What you’ll make
Sew the Paloma travel bag in either of two sizes, then make zippered packing organizers drafted to fit inside it. Two zippers across the top let the main bag open wide for easy access while packing.
The bag is unlined, with French seams enclosing selected body seams. Webbing handles run up the front and back, and the shaped base gives both sizes a 20 cm depth.
The matching organizers come in large and small formats. Each has a top zipper and boxed corners that create a 5 cm depth for separating clothing, accessories and smaller belongings.
What you’ll learn in these classes
- Assemble a wide-opening top panel with two zippers and topstitching.
- Join the base, sides and front panels around corners and curves.
- Enclose selected body seams with French seams.
- Position and securely stitch the webbing handles.
- Install each organizer zipper with both sides aligned.
- Form boxed corners for the organizers’ 5 cm depth.
Fabric guidance
The class bag uses stain-resistant Panama canvas. Choose canvas, denim or another substantial fabric with enough body for an unlined travel bag and regular handling.
The organizers are made in lightweight poplin. If your fabric frays heavily, finish the edges before extended handling so the weave remains stable during construction.
Make it your own
French seams create the featured interior, but you can use exposed overlocked seams or cover them with bias tape. Because these finishes use different seam allowances, they can affect the final measurements.
Test the uncut webbing to find a comfortable handle length before attaching it. You can also connect the two zipper pulls with a fabric tab so they open together.
Finished sizes
- Small travel bag: approximately 40 × 30 × 20 cm.
- Large travel bag: approximately 55 × 40 × 20 cm.
- Organizers for the small bag: 19 × 19 × 5 cm and 39 × 30 × 5 cm.
- Organizers for the large bag: 27 × 19 × 5 cm and 54 × 19 × 5 cm.
Two video classes cover the travel bag and organizers separately. The project includes printable A4 and copy-shop A0 patterns, plus a file with finished measurements and project requirements.
