What you’ll make

Sew three removable Peter Pan collar styles: a classic rounded collar, a pointed version, and a butterfly-shaped design.

Wear the collars over a T-shirt, blouse, or dress. The samples demonstrate ribbon ties, a small hook-and-eye closure, and a button with a cord loop.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Prepare the collar pieces and apply interfacing.
  • Position ties, loops, or other closure elements.
  • Sew smooth curves and defined points.
  • Trim, clip, and notch the seam allowances.
  • Turn and press the collar, then close the opening neatly.
  • Complete the chosen closure.

Fabric suggestions

The samples use poplin with lightweight fusible interfacing applied to one layer. Choose medium-weight interfacing if you prefer a firmer collar.

These collars work well for coordinating fabric remnants. Select interfacing that supports the fabric without making the turned edge bulky.

Make it your own

Use the three shapes as starting points. Widen or narrow the outer collar, extend the back, exaggerate a point, or draw a new outline while retaining the inner neckline shape.

The class also explains how to make the neckline opening tighter or wider. Test the paper pattern around your neck and allow for the included seam allowance.

Add lace, embroidered trim, decorative buttons, appliqué, pom-poms, or fringe. Add fine trim after turning, or secure suitable trim between the layers before sewing.

Wear your collar with the Madrid T-shirt or the Nerja Dress.

Pattern sizing

The pattern set includes one adult size and two children’s sizes. The adult collars have an approximate inner circumference of 50 cm.

The class includes separate downloadable pattern files for the adult collar and the two children’s sizes.
