What you’ll make
Sew reversible baby bloomers with elastic at the waist and leg openings. Use two coordinating fabrics to create a different look on each side.
The pattern includes optional gathered ruffles across the back. Leave them off for a smoother reversible version with less bulk.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut the outer and lining fronts and backs on the fold.
- Finish ruffle edges with a dense zigzag or baby overlock.
- Gather each ruffle to fit the curved back.
- Secure the ruffles in the intended direction.
- Join both fabric layers into a reversible garment.
- Sew casings and insert elastic at the legs and waist.
Make it your own
- Combine two prints, two solids, or one of each.
- Omit all three ruffles for a simpler, lower-bulk version.
- Adjust the ruffle spacing while keeping the waistband area clear.
- Use contrasting thread to emphasize the ruffle edges.
For an unlined option without ruffles, see the baby diaper cover, which uses the same size range.
Pattern sizing
The PDF pattern covers sizes 0–3 months through 24 months. Assemble the pattern and select the needed size before cutting both fabric layers.
Choose elastic that fits the sewn casings and check the length for the child who will wear the bloomers.
The class includes the sewing demonstration and a reversible bloomer pattern with optional ruffle pieces in sizes 0–3 through 24 months.
