What you’ll make

Make a short, skirt-style craft apron that keeps frequently used tools close while you sew, create or work at a craft fair.

It has front pockets, including a secure zippered pocket, plus a carabiner attachment for keys or small tools.

Waist ties hold the structured apron in place, making it useful for sewing supplies, art tools or market-day essentials.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Sew a French seam for a clean finish inside and out.
  • Prepare and install a zippered pocket.
  • Finish a smaller pocket with bias binding or a hem.
  • Position and secure the pockets.
  • Add waist ties and a carabiner attachment.
  • Control fraying and topstitch the apron neatly.

Fabric and materials

Use canvas or another heavyweight fabric with enough body for the apron base. The pockets can be cut from a contrasting fabric.

Add interfacing if the pocket fabric needs more structure. You will also need a zipper, tape or webbing for the ties, and an optional carabiner.

Make it your own

Adjust the pocket positions while wearing the apron, or add another pocket to suit the tools you use most often.

Finish the smaller pocket with bias binding or a hem. Use straight or decorative topstitching, or create parallel rows with a twin needle.

If you omit the carabiner, cut the base as one continuous piece measuring 95 cm wide by 36 cm high.

The video covers the apron base, pockets, ties and optional carabiner attachment. The downloadable PDF provides the project pieces and measurements.
