What you’ll make

Sew soft house slippers for children and adults, suitable for wearing at home or packing for a trip. Their compact shape makes them a useful project for warm fabric remnants.

The class sample uses faux shearling for the exterior, interior and sole. The opening and sole can be adapted to your fabric, preferred warmth and need for grip.

What you’ll learn in this class

Shape the upper and check the opening for fit.
Match the upper to the sole using the pattern marks.
Enclose and turn the sole layers.
Close the remaining opening neatly.
Adapt the opening for stretch or non-stretch fabric.
Manage thick layers with a suitable needle and presser foot.

Fabric and sole options

Warm remnants such as faux shearling suit the cozy sample. Stretch knit is another option, but its elasticity affects how closely you can shape the opening.

For added grip, use purpose-made non-slip fabric on the bottom. Faux leather is another sole option discussed in the class.

Add batting, stabilizer or a purchased or reclaimed shoe insole between the sole layers if you want more cushioning, body or separation from the floor.

Make it your own

Shape a closer opening with stretch fabric.
Add soft elastic when the main fabric does not stretch.
Use a rib-knit insert for warmth and flexibility.
Choose a plain, cushioned or non-slip sole.

Sizes

The pattern includes European shoe sizes 23 through 44 for children and adults. Try on the slipper before closing the turning opening to check the fit and add any optional sole layer.

The beginner-friendly video class includes an A4 pattern and demonstrates fabric-dependent options for the opening and sole.
