What you’ll make
Make a padded seat cushion and back cushion for the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair. The design works with the two chair positions shown in class.
Sewn hook-and-loop pieces hold the cushions in place and allow removal. An opening in the seat cushion accommodates the chair strap.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Attach batting to the cushion layers.
- Prepare pieces that conceal the fasteners.
- Assemble the cushions with turning openings.
- Clip curves and trim corners before turning.
- Create a reinforced opening for the chair strap.
- Position and sew the hook-and-loop pieces.
- Close openings by hand or machine.
Fabric and materials
The class recommends canvas for the outer fabric, batting for padding, and sew-on hook-and-loop tape.
Coated or water-resistant canvas can be easier to wipe clean. The instructor also discusses applying a fabric-coating product to uncoated canvas.
Knit fabric is mentioned as another possible outer-fabric choice.
Make it your own
Choose a print or color that suits the chair, or make additional sets for a different look. The fastener layout supports both chair positions shown in class.
Close the turning openings with an invisible hand stitch or a short line of machine stitching.
The class includes the downloadable Tripp Trapp cushion pattern.
