What you’ll make
Sew a softly padded tablet or iPad sleeve with a contrasting exterior pocket and a snap-fastened carrying loop.
Batting cushions the main compartment, while the pocket can hold a charging cable, headphones, or other small accessories. You can also resize the project for another device or object.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Layer exterior fabric, lining, and batting.
- Interface and attach a contrasting exterior pocket.
- Finish the pocket with bias binding or a hem.
- Make and insert a fabric carrying loop.
- Turn a bulky padded project through a small opening.
- Install snaps without piercing unwanted layers.
Fabric and supplies
Use a stable woven fabric such as poplin, quilting cotton, or canvas for the exterior and lining. You will also need fusible interfacing, batting, bias binding, and optional snaps.
A walking foot is helpful when sewing through the batting and multiple fabric layers.
Make it your own
Replace the bias-bound pocket edge with a hem or decorative stitch. Make the carrying loop longer or shorter, omit it, use matching fabric, or finish it with a small swivel hook.
Add a snap, hook-and-loop tape, or a button to the exterior pocket if you want to secure its contents.

The supplied pattern was drafted for a standard iPad rather than the mini or larger model. Check your device against the pattern before cutting.
When adapting the dimensions, allow enough ease for the tablet to slide into the padded sleeve without becoming tight.
