What you’ll make
Sew a hands-free holster bag formed from two mirrored sections that sit close to the body. Adjustable webbing lets you fit the upper and lower straps to the wearer.
Each side combines a lined zippered compartment with a dimensional outer pocket and snap-fastened retaining strap. The outer pockets can hold a phone, sunglasses or other small essentials.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut and organize mirrored exterior and lining pieces.
- Shape a dimensional patch pocket with darts and reinforced corners.
- Create a zippered welt opening with fabric zipper stops.
- Bag the exterior and lining and close the turning opening.
- Attach webbing tabs and thread straps through sliders and rings.
- Reinforce and install the retaining strap’s snap.
Fabric choices
The sample uses canvas outside and poplin for the lining. Denim or faux leather can also be used for the exterior.
Interfacing is optional. Add it when a softer fabric needs more body, choosing its weight according to whether you want a flexible or structured bag.
Make it your own
Omit the outer pockets, use one on only one side or make the two sides different. The narrow retaining strap can also be enlarged into a fuller flap.
Reposition the zipper opening to suit how you reach into the bag. A front tie, strap or small buckle can help the holster sit more securely against the body.
Try on the assembled webbing before stitching it permanently so the straps fit the wearer. An additional slider can provide further adjustment.
Finished size
The pattern lists approximate finished dimensions of 36 cm high by 20.5 cm wide. The webbing system is adjustable for a closer or more relaxed fit.
