Travel Toiletry Bag
In this class, I’ll show you how to sew an incredibly practical and spacious travel toiletry bag. It rolls up, can be hung, and the main bag is removable because it attaches to the base with hook-and-loop fasteners. You’re going to love it!

What you’ll make
Sew a roll-up travel toiletry organizer with a carrying handle, a hanging base and a roomy zippered pouch that detaches with hook-and-loop fasteners.
Inside are an upper zippered mesh pocket and two clear-vinyl pockets for small items. Rings let you hang the base while the removable pouch sits elsewhere or travels on its own.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Prepare sturdy fabric and finish edges that fray.
- Align hook-and-loop strips so the pouch sits securely on its base.
- Construct a dimensional zippered pouch with curved seams.
- Sew with mesh and clear vinyl.
- Bind pocket edges and the organizer perimeter with bias tape.
- Add carrying and hanging straps in reinforced positions.
- Install optional snaps on the pockets and organizer.
Fabric options
A sturdy canvas-style fabric is recommended because it gives the organizer body. The class uses waterproof canvas, which can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Regular canvas is also suitable and may be coated with two layers of Odicoat. Mix mesh, clear vinyl or coordinating fabric across the interior pockets.
Make it your own
Make the interior pockets from mesh, vinyl, fabric or a combination. Leave a pocket open, add snaps or divide a wide pocket with vertical stitching.
The carrying handle and some snap closures are optional. Opening rings are demonstrated because they can attach around a closed rail or rod.
Finished dimensions
Rolled and filled, the organizer measures approximately 23 cm high × 30 cm wide × 14 cm deep. Its depth varies with the contents.
The removable main pouch measures approximately 21 × 26 × 10 cm.
The video class includes a printable PDF pattern and demonstrates both the removable pouch and the pocketed hanging base.
