What you’ll make
Make a warm triangular scarf that wraps neatly around the neck and fastens with a decorative closure. The class shows versions backed with sherpa and fleece.
The unisex design comes in sizes for children, teens, and adults. It is an approachable cold-weather project for someone beginning to sew.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Orient knit fabric so its stretch runs in the intended direction.
- Control an outer fabric and warm backing while sewing.
- Turn and shape the triangle cleanly at its points.
- Close the opening by machine or with an invisible hand stitch.
- Attach and reinforce the faux-leather closure.
Fabric options
Choose sherpa or fleece for the warm reverse side. The outer layer may be knit or woven, allowing the finished style to range from sporty to more polished.
For knits, the class recommends a jersey or ballpoint needle and demonstrates a walking foot. Woven edges can be finished with a zigzag stitch or serger to control fraying.
Make it your own
Change the scarf’s character through the outer fabric, backing, and closure. Fleece creates a casual look, while sherpa adds a more textured finish.
Sizes and measurements
The pattern provides three cutting sizes: up to age 5 at 105 × 30 cm, ages 5–15 at 125 × 40 cm, and ages 15 and up at 145 × 50 cm.
