What you’ll make
Sew relaxed, shorts-style unisex boxers with an elastic waistband and a constructed front fly. They can be worn as underwear or sleep shorts.
The demonstrated pair has three decorative buttons. The class also shows a closed-front version and explains how to make the fly functional with buttons and buttonholes.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut the separate left front, right front, fly, and mirrored back pieces.
- Construct the overlapping front and its characteristic topstitching.
- Use a double needle for parallel topstitching and the hems.
- Join the back rise, inseam, and side seams.
- Measure the assembled waist and make a matching fabric waistband.
- Insert and join the elastic without twisting it inside the waistband.
Make it your own
Choose a playful print, add decorative buttons, or make a closed front. For a functional fly, add working buttons and buttonholes as described in the class.
Adjust the leg length at the hem or make a coordinated set in different fabrics.
Pattern sizing and fit
The PDF includes sizes 36/38, 40/42, and 44/46. The pattern runs large, so choose the smaller size if your measurements fall between sizes.
- 36/38: waist 70–78 cm; hip 82–90 cm.
- 40/42: waist 78–86 cm; hip 90–98 cm.
- 44/46: waist 86–94 cm; hip 98–106 cm.
The listed elastic lengths are 72, 80, and 88 cm. Treat them as guides because the class also explains how to fit the elastic to the wearer and its stretch.
The video class includes a downloadable boxer pattern in three sizes with measurement guidance.
